Data General, Markcare Medical Systems And Worldcare Technologies Announce A Strategic Alliance To Provide Integrated Clinical Information Management Solutions To The Healthcare Industry

WESTBORO, MA -- January 12, 1999 -- Data General Corporation, MarkCare Medical Systems, Inc., and WorldCare Technologies, Inc. announced today a strategic alliance to provide integrated clinical information management solutions combining telemedicine and PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) to the healthcare industry. The companies are leaders in providing PACS, telemedicine, and computing products to healthcare institutions around the world.

The alliance will combine the products, services, and market reach of each company to provide an integrated, scalable solution for managing multi-specialty clinical information within a healthcare enterprise and across regional and national networks interconnecting medical institutions and primary care clinics.

Data General, MarkCare Medical Systems, and WorldCare Technologies are already working together on large-scale projects in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the US.

"This alliance is a natural step forward to combine the vision, technical strength, and marketing reach of the three industry leaders to advance the development of clinical information solutions and multi-specialty, multimedia medical systems," said Bob Iacono, Data General vice president, Worldwide Healthcare Division.

The clinical information management solutions provided to healthcare enterprises are anchored in a state-of-the-art radiology image management system (IMS) developed by MarkCare Medical Systems that runs on Data General's AViiONâ server and CLARiiONâ storage platform.

"IMS is the major component of delivering and implementing a successful CIMS. This alliance is another step of providing the enterprise-wide PACS / Telemedicine system based on the open system, computing expertise, product flexibility and industry knowledge of all the partners," said Leo Futerman, Vice President of MarkCare Medical Systems.

Building on the IMS, WorldCare Technologies clinical information management server, OpenMed Manager, extends the solution beyond the healthcare enterprise to receive, route, and manage patients' clinical cases among hospitals, primary care clinics, and other healthcare facilities. WorldCare Technologies' product suite provides a complete range of clinical information and image capture and viewing applications that support primary and secondary diagnosis and treatment management and web-access to multimedia patient clinical records. In addition, WorldCare Technologies' product suite is capable of augmenting radiology image studies with other clinical information as well as other specialty data including, pathology, dermatology, and ophthalmology.

"The potential of extending WorldCare Technologies' private network and internet-based solutions within the enterprise and the radiology department and making them available to healthcare systems worldwide is a key driver behind our alliance with Data General and MarkCare Medical Systems," said Eman Safadi, Chief Operating Officer of WorldCare Technologies.
